The Minnesota State Fair is celebrating the annual seniors and kids day today. One of the main things attracting visitors to our booth is the in-depth information on our system’s colleges and universities plus other programs such as TRIO and Second Life. Second Life volunteer Jackie Lindquist joined us in the afternoon to provide information about the new virtual world that is expanding quickly in higher education. Lindquist, of Central Lakes College in Brainerd, is the faculty liaison for professors and instructors who want to begin using Second Life in the classroom.
Volunteer Nancy Lee, right, shows a family how the Second Life virtual world enables college students to learn through new experiences.
The volunteers are knowledgeable and supportive to those who are exploring the possibility of attending college and range from trustees, presidents and campus representatives to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system office staff. These volunteers are here daily to answer your questions.
Trustee Dan McElroy, one of the 15 members of the system's Board of Trustees, meets fairgoers Monday.
Choosing a college is a difficult task, and we know there are always questions to be asked. We welcome you to ask questions or pick up a free pencil - or as Trustee Dan McElroy has renamed them, “erasers on a stick!”
